We collect as little personal information as we can, we use it only to respond to you and to carry out our work, and we never sell it.

Who we are
The Schoonees Foundation (“we”, “us”) is the responsible party for personal information collected through this website and in our correspondence. Our Information Officer is Cornelius Schoonees, reachable at info@schoonees.com.
What we collect and why
- Contact form. Your name, email address and message, so that we can reply to you. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks browser signals to tell people from bots; it is not used to track you.
- Correspondence. The contact details and information you choose to send us — including, for those we support or consider supporting, information about their ministry and circumstances — used to communicate with you and to make and administer decisions about support.
- Website analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookie-free and reports only aggregate figures such as page views and referring sites. It does not identify individual visitors.
- Technical data. Like any website, our hosting provider processes IP addresses and request details to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. Pages also load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when fonts are fetched.
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not add anyone to a mailing list without their consent.
Legal basis
We process personal information where it is necessary to respond to a request you made or to carry out an arrangement with you, where we have a legitimate interest in running and securing this website and administering our work, or where you have given consent (POPIA section 11).
Sensitive information
Because our work concerns support for Christian ministry, information we hold about the people we support may reveal their religious beliefs, which POPIA treats as special personal information. We process it only with their consent or as POPIA otherwise permits for religious organisations, keep it to what is needed, and never publish it or share it without their agreement. We take particular care where disclosure could put someone at risk.
Who processes it for us
We rely on a small number of operators who act on our instructions and are bound to protect the information:
- Cloudflare — website hosting, security, bot protection and analytics.
- Resend — delivers contact-form messages to our mailbox.
- Google Workspace — our email service.
These providers may store or process information outside South Africa, including in the United States and the European Union. We use them because they are subject to data-protection laws, binding agreements or safeguards that provide an adequate level of protection, as POPIA section 72 requires. We do not otherwise share your personal information, unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries and correspondence only for as long as we need them to deal with your request or our relationship with you, or for as long as the law requires (for example, financial and tax records). After that, we delete or de-identify them.
How we protect it
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), authenticated email (SPF, DKIM and DMARC), access controls on our accounts, and limiting access to people who need it. If a security compromise affects your personal information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA section 22 requires.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you, and request a copy of it;
- ask us to correct, update or delete information that is inaccurate, out of date or no longer needed;
- object to our processing of your information, including for direct marketing;
- withdraw consent you have given, without affecting processing that has already taken place.
To use any of these rights, email info@schoonees.com. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within a reasonable time.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
